“Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng jokingly shared an “optimistic” attitude for Donald Trump’s second term on Thursday — at least, until he looked at a list of contenders to join the president-elect’s Cabinet.
Chieng turned to a NewsNation report that named Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf as possible cabinet picks.
Chieng called the picks “not as bad” as he expected and said that it “could be worse” — before the report mentioned Trump allies like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Elon Musk, Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer.
“OK, yeah, it’s worse,” Chieng said.
He later continued, “Other names floated for his Cabinet include Hannibal Lecter, the Menendez brothers, the poliovirus and — for Secretary of Transportation — a Cybertruck with a Hitler mustache.”
